Gosh! David ~ This blossom is a SURPRISE. Must have been our cooler than normal summer interspersed with intense heat spells that’s fooled it. Hope that doesn’t mean no spring blossoms…. Many apples tend to produce crops in alternate years.
Saw a similar thing happen to a neighbor’s magnolia a few years ago. Our weird changeable weather tricked it into full glorious bloom in NOV or DEC and then it got smacked by one of those Arctic blast that pour over Sonoma county in the winter. Trees are so vulnerable when they’re blossoming and putting out new tender growth.
